FOUNDER’S STORY
Eden & Okra was born from a season of unexpected change, healing, and rediscovery.
After being laid off from my career, I became the primary caregiver for my grandmother. What could have been a period defined by uncertainty became one of the most transformative experiences of my life. During that time, I reconnected with the land our family owns in South Carolina, a place rich with history, memories, and lessons waiting to be uncovered.
Learning this alongside caring for my grandmother became a source of healing. Through her stories, her strength, and her example, I gained a deeper understanding of her resilience and the resilience that lived within me. I began to see gardening not only as a way to grow food, but as a way to reconnect with my roots, honor my ancestors, and nurture my own well-being.
Although I completed college through graduate school, I felt called to deepen my knowledge in a different way. I enrolled at Gwinnett Technical College to earn a diploma in Horticulture and obtain my Pest Control License. Today, I continue to expand my expertise through the study of horticultural therapy, exploring the powerful connection between plants, healing, and human wellness.
Eden & Okra is the culmination of that journey. It is a space created to gather, grow, learn, heal, and thrive together. It is rooted in the belief that the land has something to teach us, that community is essential to our well-being, and that growth whether in a garden or within ourselves…is always possible.
Through Eden & Okra, I hope to cultivate more than gardens. I hope to cultivate connection, joy, healing, and a lasting legacy of abundance for Black women and the communities we serve.
EXPERIENCE JOY, CREATIVITY, & COMMUNITY.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to grow a community that not only produces healthy food and beautiful gardens but also fosters healing, leadership, self-sufficiency, and a renewed sense of belonging. We believe that when Black women have safe spaces to plant, learn, and thrive, they cultivate abundance not only for themselves but for their families and communities as well.
At Eden & Okra, we envision every seed planted as a step toward a future rooted in resilience, nourished by sisterhood, and blooming with possibility.
